Global Memory

Global memory saves time and boosts productivity by storing frequently used content that can be easily reused across all your documents. It's organized into groups, similar to folders.

In order to create your first global memories you need at least one group.

In previous versions of Chibi global memory was referred to as global variables.

Create a Group

To create a group -- at the top click the "New" button.

Once you create at least one global memory group your panel will look like this:

Across the top (left to right) you have:

  • Filter - when you have a lot of groups, or memories in groups, this filter helps you find what you're looking for.

  • Favorite - you can favorite memories. Then when you toggle this button only the favorited memories show in the panel.

  • Workspace - you can assign memories to workspaces. Then when you toggle this button only the memories assigned to the workspace you're in will show.

  • Help - opens this help guide you're reading now

  • Toggle Overlay - this will change the panel between overlay mode and sidebar mode. Overlay mode gives you more space on smaller screens if needed.

  • Re-Sync - if you work across different browsers and notice some memories show in one but not the other, hit re-sync to load the latest from the database.

  • New - creates a new global memory group.

Rename Group and Change Color

When a group is closed you'll see the pencil button, click this to rename and set the color for the group.

Create a New Memory

To create a new memory first click the group you want to create it within. The group will "open" and should look something like this:

Click the green plus button to create the memory. This will create a new memory and open the memory editor:

Set the name of your memory and enter the contents you want stored within it.

The contents of a memory is something you want Chibi to understand/use at some point in the future. It could be anything from a character description, topic, audience, to research notes, and more. Completely up to you.

Don't forget to save once you're done.

The Memory Editor

The memory editor is where you create and edit memories. It is opened when you create a new memory, or when you click the memory to edit it.

Across the top of the editor (left to right) you have:

  • The name of the memory

  • Copy Export Code - useful if you want to duplicate this memory, or share with another Chibi user.

  • Settings - where you can add tags or assign the memory to workspaces

  • Save button

  • Close button

Saving Global Memory to Document Memory

This "brain" button will show next to every global memory you create. Click it to instantly copy the global memory to document memory.

Why?

Document memory is automatically used in some tools such as Ask Cheebs or inline prompts. You might want to use this to your advantage.

Importing Global Memories

After you copy an import code for a global memory (either by clicking the "Copy Export Code" button in the editor, or copying a code shared by another Chibi user... with the code still in your clipboard, click this import button.

The global memory will immediately be imported into the group you chose.

How to Use Global Memory

You can use your global memories in your roles, actions, inline prompts, rework, etc. by using the name of the memory surrounded by double curly braces. We call this a variable.

A variable looks something like {{New Global Memory}} (notice the text between the curly braces is the same as the name of the global memory).

When you use a variable like this, the contents of the global memory will replace the variable. You can think of the variable as a placeholder for the contents of the memory.

This makes it reusable across all the different tools in Chibi. You just drop in the variable with the name of the variable.
